Arrival of the First Permanent English Settlers off Jamestown, Virginia, 13 May 1607, by Griffith Baily Coale. Salem: American Neptune, 1950. Softcover; 12 pg.; illustrated. Reprinted from The American Neptune, V. X, No. 1, 1950. Printed at Anthoensen Press, Portland, Maine. Essay starts with historical account of Jamestown settlement; evolves into artist-author´s story of his commission from state of Virginia in 1946, to how he researched and painted subjects: Sarah Constant, Goodspeed, and Discovery. Lots of illustrations of creative development of the painting. Light cover wear, edges yellowed and lightly chipped; text is clean and unmarked.
